IF: Trouble

Like the previous illustration, I did the sketch, then scanned to photoshop and did all my color and texture in photoshop. I usually block in color in photoshop then go to painter. But I just got a bunch of new "Machine Wash" texture filters from Mister Retro and am totally diggin' the results. I didn't just hit filter and stop there. There are lots of layers and experimentation going on.

I do want to get an upgrade to Painter because the new oil paint tool looks hot. I was reading a tutorial on CreativePro.com featuring an artist who made it look so good. Be warned that his painting skill was high. It wasn't just pushing the oil paint button. I appreciate when someone brings all their skill into the work. Computers get a bad rap in that area with some. It's a tool. And I love it. My only regret is not having an original when I am done.

nice "machine wash." your bird looks like it's choking on a hamster.

Ah I am always amazed at people getting cool textures from photoshop and Painter. My work is digital but the textures I do lack. This is a wonderful piece with the hand drawn quality and the graphic bad kitty in the background. Plus- I am very biased because I love birds!

This is fantastic, love the way you've used textured colour. That scared little bird is just excellent.

Those filters sound like fun. How can I get them?

I really like your work, and I am interested in how you create it. Do you simply do a pen and ink sketch and create the colors in photoshop. It blends really well. I am trying to find a way to blend computer elements into my work, but am unable to succeed so far. Textures are a new thing to me , and I was wondering if you had any sites that provide nice ones for little or no cost. I am a student and I think they could be helpful. Thanks, Wade.

I like this very much. The expression on the bird's face is priceless! I also like the gritty texture of the background.
